Maggies

Started by: priscus (inactive)

Came across a new word yesterday.

'Maggies' = pound coins

Because it is two-faced, brassy, and thinks it is a sovereign!

We used to use that word as a general term for Magpies.

We sure did.

Whenever I see one, I still need to check my impulse to search for another, and have to remind myself, I am NOT superstitious!

Insidious remnants of stuff exposed to as a child.

priscus, I always say Good morning or Good afternoon to a single magpie and ask how his wife is! (Bad luck not to ask how Mrs Magpie is!). If there are more than one, I count them.....one for sorrow, two for joy etc. And I always say "White Rabbits" on the first of May before I say anything else. If people think that's daft, I would like it to be known that I couldn't care less!
