I've just read that Inspector Morse has been voted best TV crime drama ever.
If they'd asked me I would have gone for Frost

For the british tv cop DCI Gene Hunt in 'life on Mars' and the American top Detective was Columbo

Jack Frost was my favourite too.

Good ones Tomplum but will they seem the same now. I used to watch the Professionals all the time. A good few years later I came across the programme on one of those obscure Sky channels and watched them. Total disappointment. Seemed so tame.

American, got to be Barnaby Jones, when you've got Jed Clampett chasing the baddies you know it's going to be good.

😂😂😂 Bluey was the funniest thing I have ever seen on telly.
Who on earth could take that programme seriously.

Some of my favourites have been:
Vera
Blue Murder
Taggart
Midsomer Murders
Inspector George Gently
Not especially detectives, but:
Wire in the Blood
Silent Witness
American ones:
Columbo with Peter Falk
McCloud with Dennis Weaver (loved him in the film Duel as well).
