Ghost Wi-Fi Signal

Started by: Tommy Two Stroke (16559)

A weird thing has happened on Standishgate

A couple of days ago, whilst in Standishgate, outside of that noo Polish shop across the road from Iceland, I was looking at which wi-fi signals my phone was picking up and around there, yoo can use free wi-fi from the Whitesmiths pub or McDonalds and as I looked at the list I noticed a new free wi-fi signal being broadcast by WWL, which is short for the 'Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh' Health Trust and that is the free wi-fi service you can log into at any of the hospitals and the Linacre Centre.

So where is that 'WWL' wi-fi signal coming from, because as far as I am aware, there exists no new health facility in that part of Wigan, HOWEVER,, I was outside of Bryan House, which used to be the headquarters of the NHS in Wigan, but that was years ago and it must have closed well over 20 years ago and the building has remained empty ever since and the part of the building the NHS used, was over the top of what was the Tiffanys and then Maxims night club, the top three floors to be precise, the nightclub was on the first floor and the ground floor consists of shop units

So what is all that about then ?

Has a ghost activated the NHS wi-fi system in Bryan House?

But there was no wi-fi when Bryan House was occupied by the NHS, in fact there was no internet back then ...

Am confuse

There is a health check clinic in Crompton Steet, called Healthy Routes.
You can go there for help to quit smoking, weight loss etc. There is a machine in there where you can get your BMI checked too.
I think it's something to do with the council but maybe attached to WWL but not sure.

The only thing with that is that the signal disappears has soon as you move away from Bryan House, it really is only transmitting from the Bryan House location and I don't think that Healthy Routes is the source of the 'WWL' wi-fi signal and the thing is that anyone reading this topic can go and look for the signal themselves ...

Am puzzled about this

It's a sound thought jathbee

But I think it is too far away from Bryan House for a wi-fi signal to be picked up.

WWL have offices in the town centre, Tommy - Buckingham Row, Brick Kiln Lane - Link. Could they be the source?

Ah Ah !!!

The mystery could be solved then, that could account for the 'ghost signal'

BUT

The signal doesn't have an internet connection, it is as though just a rooter has been turned on somewhere, but it has not been plugged into the internet, a bit like 'light is on but there is no one at home' which translated into Wiganese is "Leets on but their's nobody h wom" and the signal has only just appeared, surely the Buckingham Row offices would have had wi-fi for has long as the offices have been used there ?

I will doo a test and see if the said signal is coming from Buckingham Row, but I remain skeptical, I think the signal is coming from Bryan House, but I am prepared to stand (or even sit) to be corrected about this ....

TTS even though Bryan House has closed if you get the chance go on to the top of the car park and see if there are any transmitters on the roof of Bryan House.

2012

I am sure that entrance on Standishgate wasn't in use up to then, maybe there was another entrance round the side or the back of the building.

TTS

There were entrances front and back. The car park was at the back so those arriving by car used the back door.
I used to go to meetings there.
It was wound up in 2013 but it was more or less over by the end of 2012.

Well like I have said the signal seems to be coming from Bryan House, maybe squatters have mooved in and turned on a rooter, but the rooter is not connected by landline to the internet, hence the no internet connection message, which comes over the rogue wi-fi signal ...

Security needs to check out that building.

Whichever dept or organisation keeps their eye on the place, for example the old Morrisons store on New Market Street, a firm from Manchester used to come every so often and go inside it, to make sure everything was OK

So so do you think that there is no security there now.
