Volunteer Lock Keeper 2018 - Wigan Flight

The role of volunteer lock keepers is to provide a polite and friendly welcome to waterway visitors, assisting boaters through the locks and helping to maintain the area. (Video)

To join you must be over 18 and have a least a day a week available.
Following selection, training and induction, the role runs April - October.

Towpath Taskforce Wigan - every Tuesday at 10am (from 16th Jan)

A series of task days, meeting at a different canal location each week.
Tasks can include vegetation works, litter picking and general towpath maintenance.

Sparks were flying at Top Lock yesterday as workmen cut through the old iron top gates.

Not too far away (about 10 miles) ...

Johnson's Hillock Open Day - Sun 28 January - 10am till 4pm
A special open day where youíll be able to explore the bottom of the damp and eerie drained lock and get up close to the original Georgian brickwork.

Access to towpath is off Copthurst Lane, Whittle-le-Woods, Chorley. PR6 8LT

Julie and Bet recently delivered a Dementia Friends session to the 15th Wigan Scouts,
they are currently working on a project to make local canal walks dementia friendly!
