Lorries

Started by: admin (1623)

On four or five occasions over the last couple of weeks, I have had to drive up Wigan Lane at around 11.00pm and am absolutely amazed at the amount of big lorries coming from Standish into Wigan. It appears to be a continuous stream in convoy. Do they shut the southbound M6 for some repair work at this time?

Same on the motorway. Possibly supermarkets stocking up on fresh stuff for morning. Many seem to be loaded with those kind of goods.
Noticed it in other parts of the country too.

Been like that for the last couple of months now Ron, usually it was just Sunday nights, but lately it has been like this during weeknights also. The first time I thought maybe there had been an accident until I saw a convoy of motorway road repair gang going up Wigan Lane.

They were general carrier lorries Billy, Royal Mail, FedEx and Arrow XL etc. plus the large supermarket lorries and the odd caravan, this has been happening over the past few Sunday nights, however Monday evening it was closed with traffic diverted through town, this was caused because of a vehicle fire resulting in damage to the road surface. Though like you say Billy I have seen a convoy of lorries with radio-active signs all over them going down the M6 at night.

M6 Closure

According to a web search the M6 Southbound has been closed on a number of Sunday evenings lately due to accidents at Standish, Orrell or Bryn, so no government subterfuge on this occasion.

been the same again on Thursday night and again last night, I was speaking to someone who lives on the lane at Marylebone, she was saying folks on the lane are fed up with the rumbling of the lorries going past, they just get to nod off when they are wakened again by a rolling convoy.
She said that someone had told her that they are altering the M6 to a Smart motorway - no idea if that is true - anyone heard of this?

I have noticed that Emergency Diversion Route signs have been erected along Wigan Lane.

Feel sorry for anyone who lives on a main road these days with the amount of traffic at all hours. I wonder how they manage to sleep at all.

One of my friends was brought up in a house next to a railway line, trains running past it all night.

He got married and moved to a nice quiet location.

Says he didn't sleep properly for about two years.
