Schools

1st schools fine parents for taking children out off school during term time. Then we hear of schools closing on Friday afternoons excuse they cannot afford to stop open? Then we hear of schools closing a week early because of the Open Golf.To top it all they are now dictating were you can buy their school uniform from and saying items have to be bought with the school logo on more and more itemsWhat would happen if parents sent their children to school with the correct colours but no logosWould all these children be sent home or would the school do what they should be doing and that is educating our children.

Would it be O.K. if someone had some school badges made and then sold them to the parents to sew onto ordinary jumpers, blazers, etc. Like it was 'Back in the Day'?. I'm sure that to have say, 500 made the cost would work out per badge to be very reasonable. A LOT CHEAPER than buying them as it is now and when the jumper wore out you could take the badge off the old one and sew it onto a new one.

It's school 'governors' and the P.T.A.s that are responsible for it all.
There's truth in the old saying :- "Anyone can be bought, if the price is right"!

It really does annoy me. The cost of these school items are at a premium.
Do the school's ever consider that the poorer families can ill afford them.

TTS most people probably did Now the supermarkets sell uniforms in school colours and the headmasters don't like it because the schools get a cut from the designated retailersWhen I went to school the school did a deal to buy in bulk from places like Slaters to keep costs down now its you buy what we say at top price

At Notre Dame our uniform had to be bought from Henry Barry in Manchester at extortionate prices. The pinafore dress and cullotte shorts both had to be dry cleaned. Not very practicle. We had to make the uniform last for 5 years. Can't remember whether mine was two sizes too big when I started or two sizes too small when I left.

I went to Highfield Sec Mod, we did not have any uniforms as a matter of fact had they had them i for could not have had one for my parent's just could not afford them .
But i can honestly say it did not affect my schooling /education so why do they have them now??????

I live near an ( higher school ) today they "clocked" on about 9 ish then "clocked" off 12.30pm dun for 6 week's or so, also the majority have gone in their ordinary cloth's what's that all about???They appear to do that on every Friday preceding an holiday again why ????? So where i am we have peace and quite ( lot less traffic for 6 weeks ) Finally reading all the threads i TOTALLY agree with PETERP.

Our blazers were navy blue, with gold coloured edges, and Leigh coat of arms on the top pocket, not a clue where they were bought from though.

We also had to wear our caps with our uniform....Saturday morning detention if you were caught without it on....that was for the first 3 years...we also had to wear "indoor shoes" in class....what a carry on
