USA – a country of heathens?

Started by: wigvet (3549)

Normal working day today for my daughter in the office in Connecticut as it was on Good Friday and little Easter celebration in the locality it would appear over the weekend

For a country that profanes Christian values I would have thought the death of Christ would have been lauded over there as much as they appear to celebrate his birth?

I think Thanksgivng for one makes up for it. Labour Day, although not religious, is another holiday.

I got email notification that Amazon had, yesterday, dispatched an order to me. It's a standard delivery, ie not a 24 HR. So, their dispatchers, it seems, were working Easter Day.

Also, it is out for delivery, today. I know the Yodel/Amazon Logistics drivers are quasi-self-employed, but Amazon's prior notification to me suggests that delivering today has not been the driver's choice.

So much for workers enjoying the Bank Holiday!

Mind, I worked in NHS, where working Bank Hols was the norm.

All distribution staff work over Easter and Christmas albeit on a rota...the only day off in the year is Christmas Day

When I worked over the hills in White Rose territory a few years back I am sure they worked Good Friday and has Easter Monday and the following day off.

As one of the UK's glorious leaders once said " most of the people have never had it so good"

If you work in a service industry like a petrol station as I did once, it was 5 days on 2 days off and those two days could be anywhere in the week. So, if Christmas Day fell on a working day, tough.

That experience was a big eye opener as to what the working people on minimum wage had to put up with, slave labour
