Orrell to Goose Green link road
Started by: mortarmillbill (310) Report abuse
I noticed today that work has started at the bottom of Enfield Street in clearing the proposed route of trees and vegetation.

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
It started a few weeks ago. The trees and hedges have been felled behind and at the side of the ex L and Y bridge that crosses Billinge Road. They have also cleared vegetation on the bridge that separates Leopold Street and the Highfield Parish Rooms.

Mature trees have disappeared and when you stand at the bottom of Enfield Street near the phone box, you can see the proposed sweep of the road coming from the M6 and down Leopold Street.

The road is coming. Nothing now can stop it.

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1465) Report abuse
Poppycock!!!!

They cleared the vegetation from the route of the Goose Green to Westwood Park Link Road, over two years ago and construction of that road as not yet started, in fact Council have just put out to tender, ground investigation work on that proposed road LINK so does that sound like construction will start anytime soon on that road?

I think you will find that the removal of vegetation on the route of the 'proposed' M58 - Goose Green, Link Road is also for site investigation work and it is being done now, before birds start nesting in the trees

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
...There are no trees left.

Always moaning about traffic on here and when measures are implemented to alleviate it you still moan. Roll on the M58 link road.

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1465) Report abuse
ena

Trubble is that they are not being implemented are they and the years are just going by

Posted by: ena1958 (6291) Report abuse
That's true enough but I think it will be full steam ahead this time, well we can only hope.

i dont think most wigan road users would be moaning about the road if it had have been built when it was needed back then circa 1970/5.
my only fear is it will be a silly single carriage way, that wont be able to cope with the tremendous volume of traffic wanting to use said road.
can you imagine another way more straight forward than off the m6 at orrell then straight into wigan centre,a lorry drivers dream when it comes to the traffic nightmare thats wigan at present.

Posted by: ena1958 (6291) Report abuse
I agree it needs to suit the needs and it will make a vast difference.

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
A vast difference? To what?

A single A road coming to a double roundabout at Pemberton Station, with traffic coming from Winstanley, imagine the scene at 8am: mass queues coming down Windy Arbour and likewise on Leopold Street.

Nothing will be achieved.

Posted by: ena1958 (6291) Report abuse
No-one expected you to approve or see the bright side. Most people I know are in favour of the M58 link road because they can see further than the end of their nose.

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1465) Report abuse
baker boy

You are right, the M58 should have been extended from Orrell to Westhoughton in the early 1970's and gaffer says the reason it didn't happen was because of the Local Government Reorganisation thing in 1974 when Wigan Metro was formed and took over the proposed route, if everything had been left the way it was, then Lancashire County Council would have extended the M58 to Westhoughton as originally planned.

I have a feeling that none of these new roads are going to be built

Posted by: jathbee (8044) Report abuse
I think it will make a huge difference.

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
...Again, to what?

Posted by: Stardelta (5630) Report abuse
Traffic volume on Orrell road, traffic volume through Pem, traffic flowing through the saddle, traffic volume on Wallgate and Queen st. It will all be reduced if there is an alternative and more direct route through town and on/off the M6 at jct 26. Is all of this really going to be a bad thing?

As for it being single lane, so what? No left or right turns off it, no traffic lights or crossing along its length, no bus routes or nearby schools and it will almost certainly be a clearway so no parking. What is there to hold traffic up?

Maybe I am just thinking too hard?

Posted by: orrellite (2252) Report abuse
The big question with this road will be the downgrading of the Orrell link slip road from A577 at present it is motorway and when the road show was on they anticipated that this would be the biggest hurdle if ever the funds become available.

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1465) Report abuse
orrellite

Why would that be a hurdle?

It is just a crappy congested single carriageway road from roundabout to traffic lights.

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
The proposed road will NOT be a clearway - that is impossible. There will be numerous roads feeding it and others for access.

The residents of Badger's Wood have to get out; they will cross the road to do so, hence the inevitable build up of traffic.

It just isn't practical.

Posted by: lectriclegs (2699) Report abuse
Live with it.

Yoo clearly don't know what a 'clearway' is you thick get

Posted by: nyce horse (3127) Report abuse
"no traffic lights or crossing along its length,"

Panda crossing for the Nursery and a Cycle crossing for a start ? or is that just WMBC lies to placate the residents?

No nyce, not at all. Its me thinking of the original proposal from years back.

Sorry for the confusion

Open the road past heinz through martland mill and back of football ground past B&Q .

Posted by: jathbee (8044) Report abuse
Apparently it's on the cards, noddy.

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
It is obvious that those not affected by the road are in favour of it.

Especially those that live in the terraced back streets.

Par for the course on here.

Posted by: jathbee (8044) Report abuse
Even you must know that because of the amount of traffic on the roads these days, one of which is yours, congestion is at unacceptable levels and things need to be done to alleviate it.

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
Alleviate what?

Traffic has been building up on Enfield street for the last five years, ever since they rigged the lights.

To have an extended motorway tearing down Wimpey is completely unacceptable by any standards and would cost millions. And what would it alleviate?

The sound of the M6 every morning is bad enough...But imagine it 300 yards away from your front door?

And ten yards away if you live in Badger's Wood.

Posted by: jathbee (8044) Report abuse
Live with it. Many others have to.

Posted by: broady (12329)   Report abuse
Jarvo,
Do you use the M58 to get to work???

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
...'Live with it...'

But NOT if you live in Norley.

Posted by: lisalee (11929)   Report abuse
"The sound of the m6 every morning is bad enough"

There's nothing stopping you from moving

Probably find it easier to sell before they build the link road

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1465) Report abuse
jarvo

In between where you live and where the 'SUPPOSED' new road is going to run, there is the Triangle Industrial Estate, so I doubt if you will notice any difference in noise 'IF' the road is 'EVER' built

Posted by: jathbee (8044) Report abuse
Jarvis are you totally dim. I don't live on Norley, nor do I live in Pem either.
But I can hear the motorway from where I live. Although no heavy goods vehicles will rumble past my door step. But you will have to do one of two things, as Lisa says "Move" If you can sell, that is, or, as I said, "live with it"

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1465) Report abuse
Jarvo is 'totally and utterly dim'

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
Don't lie, Rose...You are Norley born and bred...And you should be proud of the fact!

You could never get way with being a snob...Not with your wicked mouth...

TTS: I find you very entertaining (most of the time).

Keep it up.

Posted by: basil brush (8754) Report abuse
and what a Wicked/Nasty mouth she's got.

Posted by: jathbee (8044) Report abuse
Jarvis. I am not lying. I was not born on Norley, I was born in Scholes.
I was brought up on Norley and lived there for many years. I am not nor never have been ashamed, there where and still are many, many good people there.

We sold our house and moved. So I am not lying, I do not live on Norley.

Maybe you should sell yours before the road is built.

Posted by: jay_1 (14715)  Report abuse
@jath.

Very true.

He's despised by all and needs to be banned. AGAIN.

Posted by: jathbee (8044) Report abuse
I know he's despised by a lot of people. No wonder . And the only reason he doesn't use foul language here is because he knows what will happen if he does.

Posted by: baker boy (13654) Report abuse
he his an anagram of this

Posted by: Stardelta (5630) Report abuse
"Wallysh. You have got a potty mouth and all that comes out of it is [removed]"

Anyone else notice the irony contained?

Posted by: jathbee (8044) Report abuse
I didn't print the word, just the first and last letter. Looks like Wallysh had been running to teacher again. It wasn't removed because it (broke the rules). . It wasn't an obscene word it was a poo word

Posted by: jarvo (27456)  Report abuse
...I have said all I have to say on the matter...

But for you, confession beckons tomorrow night...

Don't forget to go.

Posted by: jathbee (8044) Report abuse
I have nothing at all to confess. My conscience is clear.

I did, another ironic thing about backtrack jathbee is she said she would not be getting involved with threads that provoke an argument but its HER who causes most of the arguments.

Posted by: basil brush (8754) Report abuse
Uncertainty surrounding plans for a motorway link road has led to the closure of a Wigan nursery.

Jathbee provided her opinion to a genuine situation. That's hardly trying to provoke an argument.

Unlike a comment about someone dealing in dirt, like you did.

I'm beginning to think you like the uproar and arguments on here, all you seem to be doing is trying to provoke a situation.

So does nasty nana not deal in dirt?

But you aren't trying to cause trouble, you say?

Posted by: basil brush (8754) Report abuse
Is that a yes or a no?

Posted by: Pennywise (inactive) Report abuse
Why are you trying to cause an argument by talking about another member so provocatively?

Posted by: nanajacqui (915)  Report abuse
Penny he said to you that it was an observation....he's off his flaming trolley & the most hated person on here...def not Jay as he keeps saying...every time he types.

Posted by: basil brush (8754) Report abuse
It was a simple question, pw, if it's to hard for you to answer then don't try to stir things.

Nasty nana deals in dirt, YES OR NO????????????

Posted by: Pennywise (inactive) Report abuse
WHY IS SHE NASTY?

WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TRY AND CAUSE FRICTION?

Posted by: basil brush (8754) Report abuse
Read some of her comments instead of trying to cause friction.

Posted by: nanajacqui (915)  Report abuse
Penny please take a look at my Website & you decide if I'm nasty or I deal in dirt...www.wiganturfandtopsoil.co.uk and I'll just add that I'm doing very well indeed ...hope you like it
