Scammers

Started by: jamse (4118)

Mate of mine just fell for a message on his computer saying there was a virus and to phone a number.

Unfortunately he did and was told they were microsoft support and to goto helpme.net on his computer.
This he did but went no further and gave no more details.

Anybody else seen this?

Could just going to the address make it possible for his bank details to be accessed?

As long as he didn't give them any account details he should be OK. It looks like the scam is not to con people out of their details to empty their bank account, it is to con people into subscribing to a Remote Support service that they don't need.

Think he was lucky. It just dawned on him it might be a scam and he hung up.

Come across this quite a bit but mostly via telephone, my answer on the phone is always 'we both know that this is not true and is a scam ... then put the phone down. I never open emails I neither know or do not recognise. These people are without morals
