Snow

Started by: arrow (895)

Snow is on the way, so they say.
Time to rejoice or time to pray?

I hope it does snow. There's plenty photo opportunities when the white stuff falls I'll have to buy some new boots though cos there's no tread on my old ones.

From an OAP perspective I would prefer if it did not. But I do like to look at it.

It's arrived here too. I just hope it doesn't freeze because I hate driving in snow and ice.

Just arrived in my neck of the woods too. Snow chains on this old girls boots tomorrow, can't afford a fall at my age . Don't want to clog up A&E. It's almost weekend and it will be packed with the King street mob.

It's 'here' too now!

But you won't make a snowman out of it, cos it's not deep enough!

SNOW (1962)

I traced your footsteps in the snow,
deep they were
on the path you'd walked before:
in summer dust
and over newly cut grass.
And now,
in winter's icy grasp,
as the falling snow blots
out the black sky,
I ask
you your name
for the first
time...

Surely January 2017, or did it take you a year to think it up?

It was late, and it came to me quickly. I often work like that. I have edited.

I wrote it for someone who isn't around anymore. I added the year, 1962, because I remember the big freeze of those early years. The year and the snow are of the past; the person in question is of more recent times.

Thank you for reading.

Glad for the seniors. We have it for months but it doesn't melt and turn to slush and ice making it difficult to walk. It is still crisp underfoot and I don't think it has snowed since New Years Eve. Stay safe.

BB: '1961-62: The year proceeding the 'big' one. Snow in the Christmas week, widespread with London and the South East seeing 6 inches (very similar to last year). Early January in the Midlands saw 14 inches of snow. Snow in March also, especially Scotland, but 10 inches recorded in Jersey! Average.'

Memories...

Read through my Poets thread and you will discover the poem '1963'.

Thank you for reading.

When I came over to the USA in 2000 I said " it's the most snow I'd ever seen" and the most I had ever delt with.
Used to get a lot of snow in the 50's in the UK, (Mrs britboy pointed out that I was a little boy then and it looked like a lot) rolling up massive snowballs to make barracades and make great snowmen
My dad made a snowman for me at the front window of the house, I couldn't go out because I had chickinpox, mam decided to put my brother in bed with me so he would catch it to (and he did)so that she could get passed that time quicker

I can remember walking up to the Winter Hill mast from the small carpark winter 2000, there was some snow on top but bitterly cold, I had my fiancé with me to keep me warm
I wrapped us both in my big coat, plenty of combined heat

I do remember walking up Norley Hall with my sisters and watching the kids on the slides.

Some of them stretched for yards. Solid ice.
