mistletoe

Started by: plum47 (898)

i have just bought some mistletoe and it reminded me of when i was little.my mam used to tell us that when someone kissed under it they had to take a berry off it.when all the berries were gone you could'nt kiss under it any more.no one seems to have heard of this,so was my mam pulling our legs or has anyone out there heard the same thing?

It must be right, cos I was always invited to the parties late, and when I got there no berries were to be seen

Story of my life, always too late, next time Im going to go an hour early. lol

Merry Christmas Everyone

Seem to remember that, plum47, after reading your post, jogged something in me owd brain. Pity a lot of the old customs appear to be dying out isn't it?

some of the history

Plums Mam must have read .

In some parts of England the Christmas mistletoe is burned on the twelfth night lest all the boys and girls who have kissed under it never marry.

And for those who wish to observe the correct etiquette: a man should pluck a berry when he kisses a woman under the mistletoe, and when the last berry is gone, there should be no more kissing!

A health to mistletoe and a Merry Christmas

and dont eat the berries they are "POISON" just like some of the kisses lol
