Robert Jones born 1917

Started by: wiganwench (13)

My Aunt by marriage Elizabeth Ashurst (aunt Bessie) married her fiance Peter Jones just before he left to go to fight in WW1. He was killed in the Dardenelles. I have the memorial card passed on from my mum. Today I received free access to the 1939 census and decided to look up some of my relatives. I found Aunty Bessie living at 1a School Lane with her father James Ashurst, her then husband Marmaduke Barrett Baggaley (uncle Duke) and a Robert Jones born in 1917. As he was 22 in 1939 he would have been called up in 1940. The name Robert Jones was new to me having never been mentioned to me as a child. I found his birth and it says mothers maiden name Ashurst. So my query is --- I'm sure Peter was killed in around 1915, Robert was born in December 1917. So is he Peter's son / are the dates incorrect / did Robert die in ww2??. Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you got a mix up with Jones and Brown?
Thomas and Lily both died in 1928 which could explain Robert living with his grandfather.

Thank you so much for clearing that up. Yes I think I have got my Browns and Jones mixed up. The only query is that Lily was the sister of Elizabeth (Bessie) and Ellen (Nellie). Nellie married my Uncle Bob, Robert Derbyshire. Lily was married to a Russian ??? Robert Slonker (name shortened from something I could not spell. This is all memories from childhood. I can remember Lily and Robert when I used to visit Uncle Bob in the 1940's. They had a son. Not sure of his name possibly Geoffrey although as I mixed up Brown and Jones it could be anything. So not sure of the other Lily Ashurst. Thanks for any help with this.
