Today in the W.E.P. Head line story 107 year old gets a parking fine. When you read the story they have parked up for 13 mins longer than the 3 hours allowed.But when you get into the story they were parked in a disabled bay on an Aldi car park while they went elsewhere for lunchAbusing the system these bays are for disabled patrons of Aldi and also she has a disabled badge because of her age but is not disabledNo wonder Blue Badge Holders are given a bad name

Why should she use a wheelchair. Does everyone with a blue badge use one? Who drives a car for the transport of a child, who drives a car for those who are too disabled to drive. The badge is for the person not the driver. The lady had a badge.

Doesn't matter who is parking or whose car it is as long as she is a passenger in the car. No matter how old the lady is the time limit was overrun so a fine applies. Whoever had taken her for lunch should have made sure they were back in time. It is an abuse of the badge but probably not the lady's fault but ultimately she is responsible.

My neighbour used to go fell-walking along Striding Edge, at Helvelyn. And he had a blue badge!

Why has she got a Blue Badge if she is not DISABLED Parking eye don't give a period of grace but have waived the fine as a gesture of goodwillThe point I was trying to make is why block a disabled bay on a supermarket for over 3 hours when they could have parked elsewhere maybe closer to were they had lunch.

No one else is allowed a period of grace. Blue badge holders are already given concessions.

The store can cancel a Parking Eye charge,I know because I got one when I overstayed at a Morrison's store,I got a letter a few weeks later,and saw the store manager,told him what had happened,and he told me he would sort it,he did.

Spud1 the lady in question was not shopping in Aldi but having her lunch elsewhere so why ask the store manager to cancel the fine. Stacker Lee my wife is disabled so entitled to a Blue Badge and we have a car but I do not abuse the system or take up a disability bay on any car park unless WE are using that store.On some car parks disabled bays can be at a premium and it is annoying when Blue Badge holders or other drivers abuse the system and use the bays but are not using that store.And I ask again why has she been issued with a Blue Badge if she has NO DISABILITY just because she is 107 years of age should not come into the equation. A DISABILITY I can understand but AGE I cannot

PeterP, I suggest you contact the 107 year old lady and tell her face to face that she is abusing the system and she doesn't deserve a Blue Badge!! Let me know when you do it and I'll nip along to watch you!!

Peter,I was just pointing out that Parking Eye does not have the final say,and regarding the Blue Badge I reckon anyone who lives to be 107 must be disabled in some way.

If yoo look at the picture, she has got a stick, so that means that she is disabled

Then the car must be registered to her for her to be liable for the fine. If it isn't why the big fuss?

The disabled bays at Aldi are for disabled shoppers, not for people who are going for a meal elsewhere. So the the registered owner of the vehicle was taking the wee wee.

What's happened is, THE CAR has been issued with a penalty charge notice.
THE DRIVER has found the notice on returning to the car.
THE DRIVER has made a fuss about it, thinking he'll get off with it due to his auntie being 107.
If THE DRIVER doesn't PAY THE FEE, or contact the issuer of the notice with A DEFENCE, the issuer of the notice will then trace toe REGISTERED KEEPER of the vehicle and they will then be responsible. ULTIMATELY!

In other words, it's not the old lady, who is 107, who's got the parking fine. It's nothing whatsoever to do with her, actually. BUT, if she wasn't included, her being 107, laaaaike, there wouldn't be an interesting story for the braindeads to follow and form an opinion about. Raaaaight?

Tonker,the driver would not know about the parking charge for a couple of weeks,then he would receive a letter from Parking Eye to inform him of the charge.

According to the DM the fine has been quashed by the company. All’s well that ends well.

Has I have said no matter what her age they should not block a disabled bay and then bugger off somewhere else for over 3hrs for lunch.The idea behind having a Blue Badge is to help a disabled person get nearer to where they are going. If they wanted to swan off and shop/have lunch elsewhere use an ordinary bay to park, and you have to ask how long has this been going on before they were caught out Don't stop a disabled person from using the disabled bay to shop at that store.

I agree with PeterP. Just because someone is old or disabled doesn't mean they can flout the rules. Not only were they not using the shop they were over the time limit and then to go to the press about it when they are caught.. hard faced or what.

How does anyone know they hadn't used the shop? Maybe they did. I park in a supermarket car park do my shopping,then if I have time I shop elsewhere. How many here are guilty of the same? Come on now own up

I can't see them not using the store,spending over 3 hours having a meal is hard to believe,and the parking charge as nothing at all to do with the lady.

All we know about the issue is what the papers have chosen to tell us, sadly it seems its enough for some to adopt the role of judge, jury and executioner.

Let's hope Peter never faces a situation that makes him 13 minutes late getting back to his parking spot and having to pay a penalty.

Giving people permission to park wherever they want is wrong. Everybody should be equal!

I see blue-badge-holders parked, nose to tail, every day outside my business premises. At the same time, other folk, myself included, are being given 'penalty notices' for parking whilst loading and unloading.
They park on a yellow line, outside my loading bay shutter, walk 400 yards to the indoor market, then walk round B&M's and G.T.'s, call in Wetherspoons for lunch and walk it back to their car carrying a heavy shopping bag in each hand.

age should qualify .everything slows down with age, bones wear thin with age ect ect ect.

I have took notice lately of the usage of the Blue Badge brigade..l was in receipt of a blue badge in the late nineties whilst recovering from my first heart attack and subsequent problems...However, once l was ok, l returned the badge after having it for close on three years..

I see folk in Ashton parking their cars in the bays, presenting a blue badge and getting out of the vehicle better than me and walking with FULL mobility around the shops..

Either they are a good actor when they go for the assessment OR better still....they are using a relatives badge and their vehicle....Don’t tell me it doesn’t go on....

Campfire My wife as had the use of a blue badge for over 4 years(due to having a Stroke and limited walking). We have never been asked to show our badge by any autherized person during this time. This is the biggest part of the abuse most people can and will get away with the misuse of the badge

It does go on. I have seen able bodied young people park in disabled bays on Asda car park in Wigan and no disabled person with them. I have also seen people without a blue badge use them.

My daughter once received a fine when she took her Nan shopping and put the badge on the wrong way. She had no idea which way it was supposed to be. However the fine was quashed after her explanation was accepted.
