Medicines/chemists

Started by: PeterP (11389)

At times one of our cupboards and a work top looks like a chemists shop. Yvonne's medication changes every time she comes home from the hospital and some medicines only have a short use by date.We have changed over where possible to liquids or granules or crush tablets to put into a liquid. I have returned unopened boxes of tablets and use by liquids and been told all of them will be destroyed. There is a world wide shortage of medicines why can the sealed boxes of tablets not be reused instead of being destroyed

Peter my nephews partner works in pharmaceuticals and they are a very big industry, there are warehouses bigger than Amazon's and a huge work force and its all created by medicine , A bottle of snake oil that fixes a head ache but causes a reaction so, they give you another snake oil to treat the reaction and that goes on, and on, and on,

These days you no longer have to return unused medication to a hospital or pharmacy. (But it is still recommended) You can just chuck it in your bin! Doesn't sound right to me!

J3mbo unused medicines should NEVER be put down the sink or toilet or house hold bins and should be returned to the chemist

I thought so too PeterP until I recently asked a GP what to do with a big bag of them. The answer was "Just throw them in your bin".

I took a load of tabs to Boots at RobinPark before they closed I asked the question what happens to them, the girl at the counter said she didn't,t know, she said her friend wrote to head office and said could they not be sent abroad she was told in as many words to mind her own business and not to brintreatment treat,g the subject up any more, a lot of the drugs are what are used for cancer

As far as I know drugs that are returned to pharmacies are destroyed, and not redistributed, because they could have become contaminated, same thing happens with crutches and walking sticks and equipment like that, the hospitals don't want them back.

Are you sure that unopened sealed packs are destoyed as when I asked our local Pharmacy, I was told that it was only applied to opened packs

Oh, and the Boots at Robin Park is still open and it was only the branch in Pemberton which was on the list of closures.

I think the 'destruction order' applies to drugs whether they have been opened or not.

Dont be silly Todge......Chemists do not reissue unused and unopened drugs.

They don't know if they have been tampered with and sealed up again

Imagine if you went to the chemist for a pack of viagra and ended up with some rennies instead. You would be a proper soft lad wouldn't you........and in more ways than one!!

You will of course know being the website smart a***, but I am in no doubt whatsoever, that if you worked in a Pharmacy and were asked "Have you any mates", you reply would be "No, nobody wants to be a mate of me".

they all have serial numbers on them & are registered to whoever they are dispenced to . i think that if they did reissued them it would be against the law ? .
