There are now 30 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the Wigan area according to the BBC website.

In Wigan Council local authority area, actually.
Population 326,000 plus. That's 0.009%. One in every 100,000.

The daily death rate in England and Wales is over 1540 as normal. That's 1540 deaths A DAY.
In England and Wales, since December 2019 to date, there's been 13 deaths per day due to Coronavirus.
From December 2017 to March 2018 there was over 417 deaths per day due to Flu and Hypothermia.

From the Government Office of National Statistics.

39 as of today..

Our current routine is, stay in all morning to do cleaning etc.
A light lunch, then about 2-30 pm a local walk in the fresh air for about 45 minutes.
If we see people walking towards us we either walk into the middle of the road or walk to the opposite pavement.
I have to say people are observing these new rules very well.
Back home, then oull up the drawbridge and stay in the house all night.
No holidays planned as yet, we'll see how the year pans out.
Itís going to be a long Summer!!!!!!!, but weíll get through it.

I don't go on the street at all but if everyone walks down on the left same as the traffic then no need to pass & swap sides

I wouldn't mind going 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'

Posted by: blackrodweaver (578)  Report abuse
wouldn't mind knowing from which districts in Wigan the unfortunate people with the virus are from

Posted by: momac (10735)  Report abuse
I still think the area should be known.

Posted by: tonker (21280)   Report abuse
They say "a third of UK confirmed Choronavirus cases are in London".

Yet London has NONE!

Posted by: laughing gravy (5879) Report abuse
about as funny as toothache..

Posted by: tonker (21280)   Report abuse
It wasn't meant to be funny, so why are you laughing, gravy?

My statement was aimed at blackrodweaver, who "wouldn't mind knowing from which districts in Wigan the unfortunate people with the virus are from".

They refer to the figure of 39 as being cases in 'Wigan'. However, Wigan, like London, may have none.
Bolton has 42 confirmed cases, although there may be none in Blackrod, although it's Bolton. But there might be 20 of Wigan's cases in Aspull, which is right next to Blackrodweaver! Or Hindley, 200 yards from Raymyjamie, who's also in Bolton!

That is why they should refer to the actual town / district / village rather than the large administration area.

Posted by: momac (10735)  Report abuse
That's true.

superbly put tonker summed my post up perfectly

Posted by: firefox (1476) Report abuse
The survival rate for the virus is 98.2%, yet the media only present the negatives and spread fear. I wonder why this is?

Posted by: basil brush (13825) Report abuse
Latest Public Health England figures show that those in the borough now having tested positive for the virus shot up by 24 - from 67 to 91 - between Wednesday and Thursday this week.

The previous 24 hours had seen the number rise by only two cases.

It is to be expected when people won't stay away from those they don't live with.

Posted by: basil brush (13825) Report abuse
Have you any proof of that?

Posted by: AngelWood (171) Report abuse
Tons Basil. Pictures and comments everywhere.

Posted by: basil brush (13825) Report abuse
Please post then, otherwise people might think you are trying to cause trouble

Posted by: AngelWood (171) Report abuse
Not necessary, there are enough around for all to see.

Posted by: basil brush (13825) Report abuse

Posted by: AngelWood (171) Report abuse

Meaning you don't care if the elderly die, you vile old man.

Talk about backtracking.

Posted by: basil brush (13825) Report abuse
Not everybody will die from the virus so stop trying to cause trouble "newbie"

Posted by: AngelWood (171) Report abuse
The point is Basil if you don't observe the 2 metre rule, then you can be infected and infect others.

You saying that you can't be bothered, is tantamount to a whole lot of trouble being caused by YOU.

Posted by: basil brush (13825) Report abuse
how do you know i dont do it?????????????????

Posted by: laughing gravy (5879) Report abuse

It is my fiances friend lost her father last week to covid19 makes you think you have one life in this world make it count it made me stop and rethink a lot on how much you take for granted.

Posted by: 0 years (3774) Report abuse
Unfortunately, in my recent experience, younger people (in the main) seem to think social distancing doesn't apply to them.

During two recent visits to a supermarket and shop, plus on our daily walk, I have had to politely ask people to keep their distance on a number of occasions. Every time they are people in their teens/twenties who don't seem to care and think it's a joke. I know we all thought we would live forever when we were young but I would have thought the message would have got across by now.

Don't get me wrong there have been youngsters who have acted responsibly but they have been the minority. Older fogeys like myself with whom I have discussed this have had the same experiences.

117 Wigan hospital patients have died with Covid-19, NHS reports.

Posted by: ashtonman01 (157) Report abuse
There are reports that hospitals are not overrun with Covid patients and that the figures have been exaggerated, then we have videos of nurses and doctors dancing and singing as if they've got nothing else better to do. People seem to be coming down with something but I don't think it's a virus. Does anyone ever do any critical thinking and independent research other than what they read in the newspapers or on TV?

Most people will never have heard of this which took place on the 18th October 2019 in New York. No mention of it in the media, surprise surprise:

why is it that everyone who reports on conspiracies never has a scientific background? and why is it that everybody that writes reports on conspiracy theories seems to have a degree on a different subject than the one they are talking about. I truly believe there are people out there walking around with silver paper hats

Posted by: tonker (21280)   Report abuse
There's nothing 'scientific' about government figures!

Posted by: firefox (1476) Report abuse
Now that's true.

CHap died of lung cancer. cause of death-coronavirus. When the chap's son questioned this as the chapo wasn't suffering any symptoms, he was told, because he wasn't tested, the cause of death has to be recorded as coronavirus linked.

It's all bulls**t
