THE PATH NOT TAKEN

I won't go there-
with the hurt coming back to haunt me.
And through the hedgerows
your footsteps echo,
as if I may turn my back,
and you're there!
On this path,
we would walk,
through the wet grass,
and make homeward at dusk
as the hour passed.
On the winter nights
we kept straight to the road,
moonless,
and pitch-black.
On lighter days,
as on this summer morn,
we may have stopped and gone back,
to where the paths diverged:
the well trodden way
from which we came,
or the path not taken
time and again.
And as the years have faded
I have forsaken
my belief,
that fate dealt
the final blow
and left me with my grief.
Such notions now
are mine alone
on this path I travel on.
Knowing all what was
is now the past
and the future unbegun.
Too easy now
to think and curse;
and regret for what became.
As I leave the path not taken
never to walk
again.

MOONSTRUCK

I watch you,
night after night.
From frosty streets
and open windows.
Rising,
and then hanging
over deep oceans.
You are a torch
out over the wild hills;
yellow white
and then the colour of snow,
a circle that rises
and falls,
casting light on the black woods.
Then,
you fade between cloud
and dust;
closing your eye
a crescent of orange red.
You vanish then,
leaving me empty
searching the constellations,
wondering:
Where did she go?
And why are you here?
Each month
you return,
faceless;
your mask a phantom
of the night.
Is it really you,
coming back,
over the back gardens
of despair?
One night
you will speak,
words
to put an end
to everything that went
before.
And then,
as you drip your wax
of tears,
I will close my eyes...
moonstruck.

THE DAWN CHORUS

Such a fuss,
coming home from the cotton town,
and the birds singing a hymn
as ancient as
Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

As I listen,
I can just make out
the words of Jerusalem.

Strange,
how alcohol can play tricks
on this solstice night;

as the birds bring in the dawn,
and it's
getting light...

It's Tuesday.

Posted by: jathbee (9027) Report abuse
It most definitely is Tuesday. 😂

Posted by: lectriclegs (3221) Report abuse
So, not Sunday then as the thread title suggests?

Posted by: jathbee (9027) Report abuse
No most certainly Tuesday. Definitely not Sunday and certainly not morning. And certainly not a poet in sight let alone poets.😂

Posted by: lectriclegs (3221) Report abuse
Thanks for clearing that up, jath.

You are most welcome leccy.

It seems your Catholic education in Thorburn Road (Norley) left you with a massive chip on your shoulder, Kathleen.

What's your problem, old girl?

Bitter that you never made it to the Nun's club on Wiggin Lane?

I think those beatings off Murphy and co left you with a permanent scar...

But they did to most Catholic kids of the day.

Shameful.

Murphy should have got 30 years for what he got up to...

Nasty old git.

Whoever said I was beaten at school ????

Let me explain John, my dear boy.

You keep trying to force your attempts at poetry on folks who are clearly not interested and on general instead of hobbies. Why don't you do the decent thing and stop your, less that interesting babble.

You only need to see the lack of response to confirm what I am saying.
But clearly you cannot stand rejections and like any attention seeking bore you persist regardless.

Let's face it, you are never going to make " The Poet Laureate" are you?
You are just an uneducated broom pusher with delusions of grandeur, who went to night school and now think you are some kind of academic.

Grow up, no one is interested. Well the odd one maybe.
Have you tried your prose on the patrons of your favourite watering hole, I'm sure they would appreciate it after your warblings on karaoke. 🗣🗣🗣😂😂😂

YOU, are clearly not interested.

Do you speak for others who read and enjoy my work?

Who the hell do you think you are? Telling people what to like and what not to like...

Your tough up bringing has made you into one bitter and dull old woman.

Cowardly jathbee, if you don't like the poems then don't reply, that way it'll be once less thread you and the rest of the gang have ruined

Posted by: jarvo (28322)  Report abuse
Another thread wrecked. And admin turn a blind eye.

I give up.

Posted by: basil brush (9964) Report abuse
It's disgusting that these lot are attacking folk and ruining most threads

You should learn to read what people have written, where do I tell people what to like or not to like.

If people wish to read and enjoy that's absolutely fine by me, so why put it in general? You had very few readers in hobbies, do you think more people will read and enjoy here, you are dillusional

Your entire poetry thread was removed from hobbies so why persist elsewhere.

Who made you admin, cowardly jathbee?

If you and your cronies are unhappy about it then go ont uther site and play the big I am over there.

Oh and it's had hundreds of views

PUDDING LANE
(A Computerised Dream)

I lit a candle.

Such a little light, there,
in the darkness.

It flickered,
and then died.

Then,
I walked the streets of London;

each street,
deserted,

candlelit
and closely knit.

in the heat
of a summer night.

Later,
I crossed the river bridge;

I saw the bright moon
dripping its wax:

each drop
turning to orange;

each time
catching fire;

each fire glowing
and then catching fire

to another fire.
Each fire spreading,

into a rolling ball
of flame.

Each one,
the same.

A blanket of fire
spread over a wooden town.

Each house,
burning down.

Down each street,
a similar sound.

The crackling of fire
and flame;

Faces, fleeing,
fire and flame.

Running away from
Pudding Lane.

Away from Pudding Lane...

You're at it again, Jarvo.

If you're not careful you'll have the hard of thinking going up the Mount trying to cadge free beer off the lad and wondering where all the usual people are on a Sunday afternoon.

He'll not thank you for it, you no.

We
don't
need
Brexit,
May

Corbyn.

We're
all
on

Just
one

eighty
minutes
away

from
winning
the

IT'S GETTING LATE

It's getting late,
and the bats are
back in the belfry.
Tomorrow,
I will climb Pendle Hill
and taste clean rain...

Tomorrow,
the train to Todmordern
will be late
again...

Oh look, moaning mindar, who is forever moaning about people's comments as one removed. I wonder if he/she will make a note of it.

I have no idea why it was removed. The funny poem [not a comment]I posted was found on this very site. It's still there.

Well complain to admin like you've done before.

Who got stung on the neck by a wasp
When asked "did it hurt"?
He said "no, not a lot, it can do it again if it wants"

THE WEDDING

So they wed,
they said,
with a couple of quid to spare.
Out there,
deep in the cheap wine queues,
dejected, with the late night blues.
Light years away from those walks
in the park,
and the dodging and weaving
after dark.
It's rumoured that being happy
didn't count.
Surely that's what
all this is about?
Apparently,
this wedding never took place.
But the myth and legend
spread at a pace.
And let it be known
that the demons had fled;
that night in the Labour club
when she thought he was dead.
A false alarm
for all to see,
and they reunited, later,
privately.
So when the moon hangs low
and wild dogs rage,
the bride and her groom
will look their age...

Saying I will never comes easy...
If you're hung over and permanently
queasy...

There she goes,
following me again...

Across the cropped corn
and over the high trees.

My harvest queen,
her footsteps make no din.

At the turn of the year
with the sheaves gathered in...
