It won't bother me as I don't go into the town centre nowadays, I even had to Google as to where Poundland was located in town as I'd forgotten. I've never heard of Pep&Co before, I've Googled that and apparently it's another cheap as chips clothing store, whose goods are most likely made by folks and their children in some country where they wouldn't even be able to afford to buy chips.

I was reading earlier that the UK space agency has just been granted 3 million by the government to research if there is or ever was life on Mars, it beggars belief for that money to be spent on such a daft project, what about the life here on Earth and not some freezing dust hole of a planet.

A jar of Patak's Curry Sauce is 89p in B&M's. It's also 89p, sometimes reduced to 79p, in Qualitysave.

In Poundland, it's a Pound. Well, it makes sense, dunnit?

Soap, 89p elsewhere - 1 in Poundland.
Toothpaste, 69p elsewhere - 1 in Poundland.

Poundland. Everything's a Pound. Even normally 75p things are a Pound.

Don't go. It's a fraud!

Also Tonker the things they try to shove down your throat when you're paying are still a pound if I wanted one in the 1st place I would have got one off the shelf for the same price a pound

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1702) Report abuse
Some folk are so tight, that they are not to spending a pound

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1702) Report abuse
Did you know that the massive poundland warehouse on Locket Road, along with those umpteen articulated wagons, will not cause any increase in traffic on Bryn Road

Elizabeth

That was the old BHS or British Homes Stores, the entrance was on Standishgate opposite Pendleburys and the rear entrance was up some steps and you came out opposite the Fish Market, but when the Grand Arcade opened some 10 years ago, BHS as the old British Home Stores were called by then, closed the store on Standishgate and moved into the Grand Arcade and a few months later, the old British Home Stores reopened as B & M Stores, which sells a bit of everything you like and a lot of everything yoo dislike ...

12 months ago BHS went bust and closed all the shops around the country, inclooding the one in the Grand Arcade

Last week there was a picture in paper of manager of Grand Arcade sweeping and running a mop over the old BHS store and announcing that Poundland are taking over the old BHS store in the Grand Arcade ...

ELIZABETH THE GRAND ARCADE WAS BUILT ON THE CURVE OF STATION ROAD STARTING FROM WHAT WAS WOOLWORTHS. THE NOW CLOSED BHS WAS WHERE THE ABC CINEMA CAR PARK WAS. DEBENHAMS IS AT THE VERY END APPROX WHERE THE OLD CENTRAL STATION WAS

Peter P

I would concur with those locations

I recall a councillor named 'Locket' in the 1960's. Is Locket Road named after him?

Posted by: PeterP (6044) Report abuse
Priscus yes

".... Poundlands warehouse is on that site its an enormous place. 335,275 SQ FT."

Booker (Haydock) and Sainsbury's (Haydock) are 400,000 sq ft and over 626,000 sq ft, respectively.
Aldi's new warehouse, at Hulton, is 611,250 Sq Ft !

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1702) Report abuse
It might not be breaking records, but it is still a bloody bog warehouse ...
