Tory Death Tax
Started by: section 8 (2814)  Report abuse
I suppose all you old Tories are delighted to have the government clawing at your children's inheritance after your dead.

It's enough to drive you demented, or hopefully not.

Posted by: Tommy Two Stroke (1220) Report abuse

Don't you mean 'dementia' yoo naughty man ...

Posted by: orrellite (2206) Report abuse
It has always been the case that you pay your own way with presently assets above 16k paying a contribution and above 23k paying for everything other than 'medical care' this proposal raises the limits but if you have saved and provided for your old age then you pay whoever is in government.

So if your on benefits and live in social housing you will be ok because you will be seen to. But if you have worked all of your life and bought your property and have a few bob in the bank then you will be hammered

Posted by: Anne (2904)  Report abuse
There are many ways and means of avoiding inheritance tax as has always been the case. All legal and easy to do.

Posted by: priscus (5490) Report abuse
She has obviously forgotten that she said she was going to do something about people's energy bills.

I wonder just who she told that she would be doing this forgetting, as someone has made a tidy sum on the dip, and consequent bounce-back of Centrica shares.

Posted by: whups (2140)  Report abuse
dont forget guys the this lot will close all loopholes for working class people but leave it WIDE open for big business & the rich.

corbyn...this country would be better off without an army????....his side kick says fallen IRA should be remembered?...the black woman???well, when did she say anything that any fool would want to vote for????
I"l go for the tories on this one,and corbyn along with the clowns called LIBERAL, will sink by the head....trust me.

Posted by: section 8 (2814)  Report abuse
"corbyn...this country would be better off without an army?"

1. He's never said that.

"his side kick says fallen IRA should be remembered?"

2. He's never said that.

"the black woman?"

3. I kinda agree that she is a bit of a clown.

"I"l go for the tories on this one"

4. I'd have thought freedom promoter Corbyn would be the perfect choice for a knacker. You must be burning your backside on the light bulb with all them gold trinkets hidden under your mattress. The Tories will be having a piece of that.

Posted by: whups (2140)  Report abuse
the only things that are going to sink with this lot is the NHS & workers rights. take your head out of the sand for a moment & vote labour to save the NHS.

Posted by: GOLDEN BEAR (2626)  Report abuse
Bravo hear,hear ( whups) .

Posted by: cordyline (3964)   Report abuse
Corbyn will give Gibraltar to Spain

Northern Ireland to the Republic

Falklands to Argentina

Scotland ? he will let them have a referendum but in my opinion the Scottish know what's good for themselves and will vote to stay

All the above, if he becomes Prime Minister of course; which I do not rule out

Posted by: jay_1 (14692)  Report abuse
Tories for me.. there is no other sensible choice. Corbyn found it hard to even say that the terrorist outside parliament should have been shot. The country wouldn't be safe with this lot in charge..

Posted by: Handsomeminer (1220) Report abuse
Correct whups ,the ten Bob millionaires will vote for them again ,Billy don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant

Posted by: spud1 (1590) Report abuse
The Labour party died with John Smith, the last Labour party brought the country to it's knees, what good did the last Labour lot do,God help us if Corbyn gets in.

Posted by: jay_1 (14692)  Report abuse
The senior Labour MP's views on the IRA have long been criticised after he said in 2003 their members should be 'honoured' for their 'bravery'.

He said: 'It's about time we started honouring those people involved in the armed struggle.

By corbyn's sidekick.

When will section8 stop with the lies.

Posted by: jay_1 (14692)  Report abuse
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every politician around the world instead of taking pride in the size of their armed forces did what the people of Costa Rica have done and abolished the army and took pride in the fact that they don’t have an army, and that their country is near the top of the global peace index. Surely that is the way we should be going forward.”

Corbyn certainly thinks it would be a wonderful thing for every politician to follow the lead of costa rica.

Posted by: jay_1 (14692)  Report abuse
Agree spud. It would be a disaster. Only bigoted fools like suction would even consider it.

Posted by: MarieM (4551) Report abuse
spud, it wasn't the Labour Party that caused the recession, it was the Banks. Leymans Bank went bust causing all the banks to be in trouble. I must admit I am not in favour of Jeremy Corbyn.

Posted by: orrellite (2206) Report abuse
the big shift in policy with this proposal is that there is no limit on the amount of contribution, someone with 105k would pay 5k but someone with 120k would pay 20k .
their original proposal was for a max contribution of about 75k, big difference with the asset value of property coming into play.

Leader Mr corbyn.😂

Posted by: priscus (5490) Report abuse
If only it were the case!

Posted by: section 8 (2814)  Report abuse
Jay, would it not be a good thing if every country could live without an army?

Posted by: elmos (2632)  Report abuse

Only a fool would deny it.

Cordy "Corbyn will give Gibraltar to Spain

Northern Ireland to the Republic

Falklands to Argentina"

All impossible and totally against Corbyns responsibility to the people. All have a British majority.

Make something plausible up.

I'd be the 1st to admit that he is not your usual politician but that's the point. It's about time we had someone open and honest.

Leader May is natural born speech reader who never says anything off the bat or from the heart.

I'm unsure if she has any opinion on anything. Every word I've ever seen her speak is rehearsed and probably written by someone else.

Posted by: priscus (5490) Report abuse
The incompetent Corbyn Vz the malevolent May.

It's a choice of do you wish to get slaughtered by accident or by design?

Posted by: cordyline (3964)   Report abuse
OK section 8; your opinion respected

Not a member of any political party myself

In the past I have voted Labour and Tory

Like many who have been interviewed on TV I just could not vote for JC

TM speaks in a straight-forward manner which appeals to me

So in June my vote goes for Conservative

When the Brexit vote result was announced last June politics suddenly got interesting

Posted by: priscus (5490) Report abuse
She speaks to appeal to voters

She DOES differently from what her words convey.

Posted by: whups (2140)  Report abuse
pretty obvious cordyline doesnt want the NHS as it will surely be privitised under another 5 yrs of tory rule. marie m is right it was the torys mates the bankers who bankrrupted the country by playing russian roulette with the money & it took gordon brown to keep them afloat & save all your savings.as far as the forces is concerned under tory rule the 1st thing they did was scrap every military project that was being done leaving the navy without any aircraft carriers , the airforce having to put up with the yank awac system & got rid of 10s of thousands of army personnal leaving us with the smallest army since napoleon times.

Last election Lisa got in with an increased majority - more than half the votes

Posted by: peawapp (4699)  Report abuse
I agree with all the above Labour voters and disagree with all the above Tory voters

Posted by: section 8 (2814)  Report abuse
That's fair enough Cordy. Remember to also take party and policy into consideration not just one person.

You too can surely see the Tories are making life even harder for those who they should be helping most. And making money easier for those who already have it.

Posted by: section 8 (2814)  Report abuse

I'll answer for you. They did nothing.

we will give this that and tother to the populace until we get into power and dont have the cash for any of the freebie schemes.
the only certain thing re labour is tax rises are inevitable .

Think the election will be closer than the polls say...that chancellor is a lap dog...and that pension guy is a right git to say 100,000 is plenty for us plebs to give to our kids....this may come back to bite em....and where will the means test be set for winter payments....trust us they say...hmmmm

Posted by: priscus (5490) Report abuse
I think it is safe to assume both Lab and Tory will take more tax from Mr/Mrs Average.

"hat pension guy is a right git to say 100,000 is plenty for us plebs to give to our kids"

At present that amount is £14250 so a £100,000 is a lot more than that

Posted by: roylew (1700) Report abuse
Yeh but that's pure cash....doesn't include house price if you are lucky enough to own one ..granted.....I wish labour had a better front man I all this.....john McDonald seems the best for me

If you are worried about your assets being clawed back do something about it instead of moaning. The solutions may not be appealing to you but consider what could happen if left alone.

Posted by: cordyline (3964)   Report abuse
Nursing homes and who pays ?

Mrs May should have kept her Gob shut until after the election

Why give the opposition good fodder to chew on ?

Proposal delivered badly too in my humble opinion

Posted by: nyce horse (3056) Report abuse
Stop worrying, corbyn will walk it, everything free for everybody, what more could you want?

Posted by: roylew (1700) Report abuse
Anne, are you saying turn our house over to the ones who will inherit?

Posted by: gaffer (5835)   Report abuse
It's £100k of total assets.
Being in a manifesto doesn't enshrine the idea in law.
It will have to pass through Parliament in stages. The MP's in London and the south east will inevitably wring concessions to make the scheme fairer relative to house values in different parts of the UK.
The average value of a property across Wigan is around £155k. In Esher in Surrey it is around £900k.
The maximum cost to the average Wigan home owning resident in long term care would be £55k plus other assets. In Esher it would be £800k plus other assets.
However, the opportunity for all is there to minimise the cost legally providing it is done at least seven years before the person dies.

Posted by: Anne (2904)  Report abuse
roylww..... not exactly, that is one option, there are other ways but the wording will have to be carefully done.
