Wigan Baths.
Well do you think of the building that has now replaced the Baths? I was going to put a photo on of the monstrosity in black and terracotta but I couldn't, it's too awful. It must be one of the ugliest building in the country. Who the bloody hell thought this one up?

Joseph..I totally agree,I think someone has a grudge against Wigan as they seem intent on ruining it....it`s so sad...I could go on all day about this subject.

When they built the baths it was supposed to be fantastic and long term
The old baths befoe they built the new ones was well over 100 years old. seems Old is better :)

What's this monstrosity going to be used for?

Makes a change from moaning about bins not being collected or roads not being gritted.
As for the ugliest building in the country, that distinction belongs to the tower they have built in Manchester.

I can't say the new Joint Services Building or whatever it is called is the best looking piece of architecture I have ever seen, but I think it looks a lot better than the building it replaced, the Wigan International pool.
When it is finished it will probably look a lot better than it does now

Nay 'tis bloody awful I say, and the designer should be hauled over hot coals.

Too late Joseph, he was savaged to death by his guide dog last week.

I dont doubt that in say 100 years time when it has outlived its usefulness and gets torn down there will be another group of people who will moan at its passing, at the council for allowing its destruction and at the architect responsible for the styling of its replacement

I wonder if the Victorians complained about the architecture that we seem so keen on to-day.

What do you think on the building, Sledge?
I know this 'Elizabethan' is complaining about it!

100 years? You gotta be jokin'.
The "New" police station in Harrogate St, redundant after 40 years, as was Middleton & Woods state of the art "Egerton House"
How long did the three tall blocks of flats in Worsley Mesnes last.
The road repairs,"to last 25 years" according to you, are already knackered after a couple o'years.
That's forward plannin'

Sledge, you ought to advise the road planning engineer to get over to Catalunya on a 'factfinding mission' and have a look at the roads they're currently laying there.
All the services are contained in roadside ducting so, in the event of any faults, the road doesn't have to be dug up, and traffic stopped for days on end, like it does here.
The roads over there are as smooth as a baby's bum. It's a pleasure to ride them, on a powerful motorcycle, without having to be aware of any 'traffic calming measures' and impending potholes, so-caused by North West Water / Norweb / Cable / (United Utilities)!

The reason I asked was that someone told me it was 200 million and I couldn't believe it...that is an awful lot of money, sheeesh.

mm i would,nt go has far has joseph on its looks, its just mmm, boring, nondescript, cheap office block, but when you look at the cost its not a cheap office block, turns out to be a very different kettle of fish.why are the baths in the building .we posters are obviously not on the same intellectual level has the architect!i would have thought that the baths could have been built opposite the jjb gym/soccer centre a much better site more accessible for traffic than millgate.i,ve got to say if i had payed out 200 million for it, i would be every so slightly aggreived to the tune of 180 million.
