What is Sepsis?

Local Mum backs the call for sepsis awareness campaign - Wigan Today

Sepsis was previously known as septicaemia or blood poisoning.

Anyone can develop sepsis after an injury or minor infection.

See your GP immediately if you have possible early signs of sepsis - NHS Link
high temperature (fever); chills & shivering; a fast heartbeat; fast breathing

Severe sepsis and septic shock are medical emergencies - call 999 and ask for an ambulance.
feeling dizzy or faint; confusion or disorientation; nausea & vomiting; diarrhoea;
cold, clammy and pale or mottled skin

Patients & health workers need to work together to ensure life-saving treatment is given ASAP

* Don't be afraid to say "I think this might be sepsis" *
