Another great photo that evokes all sorts of memories.
This is a great photo in more ways than one, it takes me right back to when I was very young, to the times spent playing on the peg rug in front of the fire.
What a memorable photo, I love it, also the comments about the peg rug my grandma used to make those also, but back to the pic, I remember what we used to call the blower, but if all else failed we used to put the shovel up to the fire with newspapers at the front to draw the fire.
Like the pint cup and the flat iron and the rest for the iron and the kettle at the side of the fire, always ready to fill the teapot, brilliant photo.
It could be the fire and stove at my nan & grandads in Appley Bridge in the late 50s/early 60s waiting for the flames to die down and get the toast a'cookin'.Never tasted the such since.
We've lost so much.
great photo all the coments have been taken out of my mouth memories came flooding back thank you alan for sharing it with us
That just looks like our "Cooker" for the first part of my life. I used to spend hours at weekend, clearing the flues & blacking the range. We had one in the living room & one in the kitchen. Only then it was known as the kitchen & back kitchen. T'clock on t'cornish...Who didn't have one..;o)
Beautiful photo, so many memories come flooding back. Just shows what pleasure there is in the simple things in life. Are today's Grandmas any happier, I don't think so!!
I agree with all the comments on here. Back then it would be said we had 'nowt'.I think we had everything that mattered and I wouldn't change my childhood, for the childhood of today's children. I have six grandchildren and I worry about them far more than my grandmothers ever had to worry about us.
What a great photo. I remember my Nanna's house in Bottling Wood having a fireplace just like that one.
I remember our house in Island row Ince, was exactly the same as the one shown, and on the right hand side of the lady in the corner was our copper boiler and sink, and the one window in that room which looked out on to a gable end wall. beautiful memories, even though times were hard at least we knew how to make a go at living, instead of expecting every thing to be done or given to you.
I recon that is the photo of the year,It brings back a lot of memories,Take care of it, It's a gem,
Thanks to Allan for sharing all these wonderful pictures with us.
My grandmother's house in Clarington Grove shared exactly the same fireplace and as Mark said toast has never tasted the same, it was just different and special.
what memories
