Saturday night at Bickershaw: Family, The Kinks (Ray Davies drunk), and of course Captain Beefheart, who actually woke us up at about 2.30am Sunday; great set though...
Came home early Sunday morning, starvin'; missed the Dead Sunday evening....
Great weekend....never to be forgotten...
Thanks for that Phil...

whereabouts in bickershaw was the festival?
i heard once that hendrix played there, is this true?

Jimi Hendrix didnt play at Bickershaw, the main stars were The Grateful Dead. Jimi died in 1970.
THe site for the festival was in the fields on the right hand side of the Fan Lodge.

Not being funny Mick, but the way you've written that would make folk think Beadle got Jimmi topped. lol...

It was a fabulous festival- it was almost naive in its concept and management ie.there wasn't much - it had a freshness and muddy joy that is hard to find in today's well-managed business enterprises.
Yea Beefheart was great - Rocket Morton in his white, white suit- WOW memories to treasure. As I was born and raised in Abram for many years the site was only over the rucks from my mum and dad's home.
Infact I wonder if any body remembers mum and dad visiting our "merry" band ,just before Donovan came on I think- they were the two obviously un-hip people standing at the front of the stage with a big bag of fruit wearing rainmates!!
Bless 'em.

We lived in Brown St. at the time. there was no bother, and very little noise. the sound system was aimed more towards Abram.

I was 10 at the time, we could hear the music at Platt Bridge. Remember going down with my mum and some neighbours to take a look and some outside radio broadcast teams asking people to talk on the microphone. I remember walking through loads of mud with hippies all around in makeshift tents!
