Wigan Album

Great set of photos Ron.I used to get the Southport express from Manchester as it stopped at Wigan.Annie Walker of Corrie (Doris Speed) and Jack her Corrie husband were often on the train though they did not seem to travel together

looking at the signs it looks as if there was a booking office on both sides of the station is this correct. I only remember the one on the Wigan bound side.

Yes!there was a booking office on both sides of the station.Platform lighting,by oil lamps.Signalman, in his box,had a wide view towards Wigan.Suspended outside his cabin window was a large church type bell which was used of an approaching train(distant smoke),for the benifit of passengers and staff.
