War Memorials

David, those 'owd men' in my comment on the Mitchell Street photo would have really appreciated this and other monuments too, they most likely would have fought alongside the many fallen during WW1 and didn't or rarely talked of their experience either, one man I knew would sometimes just say in a low voice "Turks, they were dirty fighters, dirty fighters." Most likely he was just thinking out loud as those experiences during the wars would be something they'd never forget.
I think this statue is better than the Boer war soldier in Wigan Park. Very tasteful and hand carved out of wood which will age better with some tender care.
Cyril you can imagine the old men when they were together talking about what they went through . They could understand each other better than their own families could.
Sleep young man for God shall keep
his loving hands on thee ,
thy journey met not one you chose
has forever cast your place ,
to remain in hearts of those you gave
the dove of freedom flight
and never yield to anyone
with chains or will who might ...
A lovely and fitting memorial with a look of contemplation.
Where exactly is Mitchell Street?
And I suppose a lot easier on them than them seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist, Veronica
It's at Union Bridge Colin, running between Ormskirk Road and Victoria Street Newtown.
Thanks Cyril, I did see on another posting that Mitchell Street was in Newtown.
