We used to live practically facing the entrance, when the heavy goods vehicles turned up after 10-30 they were refused admission which meant Parking on our front for the night which always meant broken paving stones.. anyway I felt sorry a particular cold night for the driver.. knocked on his window and asked did he e want a drink of tea.. he was Greek, I told him to just leave the cup on the step within half an hour and in broken English he gave me a bottle of ..in his words “ best Greek cognac .. thanked him and later tried it,it nearly blew my head off…but he was lovely.
If it tasted a bit like aniseed Maureen it may have been Ouzo ( not sure if the spelling is correct) it’s a long time since I drank it. I like the Greek Islands I’ve been to quite a few of them.
I've never been Veronica,,and doubt I ever will now..my son went last year with his partner..and really enjoyed it..I would just love to do Zorba's dance..
Veronica,I don't really remember what it tasted like,I just remember thinking my throats was on fire.lol
Th only Zorba’s Dance I’ve seen Maureen was in the film ‘ The Guns of Navarone’ ….:o))
Veronica and Maureen, I went to Greece in 1999. Everyone said I would always go abroad once I got the taste for it, but I was back in Whitby the year after and never used my 10-year passport again....I'd rather be here in Britain any day, The only bit I enjoyed was the flight.....I loved it but I have never flown since. HOWEVER, I DID drink Ouzo and did the "plate-smashing" in a bar....unfortunately I didn't know there is a "right" way to smash the plate on someone's head and nearly knocked Peter out.....I think HE was glad to get back to Whitby too!
I've always wanted to see other countries, but unfortunately Cliff was the ever stay at home type, I still think that he missed out not even going on a plane..I would fly every day given the chance. My brother once took me to Portugal..beautiful beaches..then my daughter took me to Barcelona..
a beautiful city..but Veronica,I will regret the rest of my life never going to Greece.
I love going away but always glad to come back home - although I wonder why after a couple of weeks! I love anywhere where there’s mountains or Alps…no beaches, but beautiful lakes to wander around. Suits me down to the ground.. it won’t be long before I’m off again ladies. Plus only the Greek Islands not the mainland.;o))
