I wonder if this was just a day out to the Lake District from Blackpool, or a coach holiday abroad. If it was abroad it wouldn't have been very comfortable on that coach. They look very smart in their best clothes and well polished shoes. It could have been Scotland - who knows! They look as if they are enjoying life anyway...
Veronica, This Bedford coach would have been very comfortable whether
it was abroad or off to Blackpool for the day. The seating was leaning back
slightly, and had headrests at the top. The coachbuilder was Duple, and
along with Plaxton, they were the finest coachbuilders in the UK. Cheers, Ray.
I remember going on one of these coaches to Blackpool lights, when I was a young girl.A neighbour in the street had organised the trip, always on Fri nights.Pop & crisp on the way.Chippy on the way home.
I am glad to know that Ray as in the last few years I have travelled on coaches to Scotland and Ireland and they have been really comfortable. So much so I went to Lake Como by coach staying overnight in France and I found that very comfortable. I don't think I could do express though! Thanks
Hi i was just wondering about top photo and a Catherine Winstanley ?Has anyone any info about her ?????
Hi Alan,
Catherine was born in July 1895 to James and Jane Carr (nee Baldwin). Catherine's sister Margaret was born in 1892. In 1896 James died and in 1901 Jane, Margaret and Catherine are recorded as living in Letterewe Street with Jane's sister and her family. Jane remarried and had two more daughters - Jane and Florence Dawber - and she died in 1906.
In 1911 Catherine is recorded as living in Standish with her stepfather, step-brothers and half sister. Her occupation is a Pit Brow Girl.
In 1916 I think Catherine married James Winstanley and I think they had 3 children, Sarah (1916), James (1920) and Jane (1925). In 1939 they are all recorded as living at Preston Road in Standish. I think Catherine died in 1966.
All of the information I have about Catherine is from Ancestry and links with other trees. I think this must be a picture of her due to her resemblance to my Great Grandmother. I have also recently posted some other pictures on here which have Catherine on them.
Hope this helps.
Angie, the last piece of info, is interesting. On a family tree that I have, on my dad's side, there is Sarha, James, Jane, and also Thomas. But they came from Wallgate.
Could it have been The Great Orme?
