I think that the road beyond the promenade is Mona Drive - with the Imperial Hotel to the right. The boarding houses/ hotels to the left have been demolished, and replaced with apartment blocks, designed to fit in with the older frontages.

In the early 1950s I went with my mates to the I.O.M. The ship was the Victoria. It had taken 1,000,000 troops to France in 1914/18 I was terribly sea sick. I believe every time it saw a wave, it changed course.
