Spent many hours playing in this area in the 50/60's.We called the pit rucks in front of the cooling towers Jack Harts,it was the Grange pit spoil heap.I do not think the farm on the photo was the maggot farm it was more or less at the bottom of the first of the ariel flights.I remember walking past the farm on the photo many times. Bill Tracy a local Hindley character lived there at one time.Very interesting set of photos.

Yes you are right about the maggot farm. this was alongside the track that led towards Bickershaw over the Railway bridge and was below and to the left of where I took this photograph. mike Featherstone.

See my other photo in assorted file titled ARIAL FLIGHTS (misspelt) This shows "Maggot Farm" clearly. I think it was a pig farm, maggots for fishermen was a sideline. mike Featherstone.

MF,had a look at the photo you mentioned and that was the maggot farm.On one side of the track was the house and on the other side was the pig farm and where the maggots were bred. There was some kind of auto feeding system or it could have been for removing slurry, not sure but it did stink to high heaven.Happy days

Glass works in platt bridge is clearly visible so this photo must have been taken from 1957 , is this area known as the seven turnings ? Its what my mother and grandmother always called it.
