I am curious as to know why Scholes was made into a separate district in 1846 - I did not know that. Would it be because of expansion to the area because of the Irish contingent? The beginning had already begun of Industrialisation. Just interested....

Retired at 56 (though he looks about 70)... in poor health... and dies at 80, not a bad age, 24 years later. I bet they didn't expect to be paying out for so long when they let him retire on two-thirds pension!
