One of the many walking days that we did.

This looks like they could be walking past the Thomas Linacre centre on Parsons Walk. The gable end of the house looks very similar to the one that is still there plus it looks like Wigan cricket club field in the background but I don't recognise the building there unless its the old club pavillion.

Yes I think you're right and the building was the old cricket pavilion. It was a Whit Friday walk to the Market Square so the church we were walking for was probably the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Springfield Road.

Malcolm Birkitt that's it. There are some photos of him under the Thomas Linacre School topic, in the school band.
