I was evacuated from South London to Wigan in June 1994, I had my eighth birthday there, I can still remember going to school along a canal, I have tried since to find the house where I lived with two old ladies but was told by the council that it had been knocked down to make room for an industrial site .I remember lying in bed in the mornings and hearing the people going to work in clogs clattering past the house.
My best pal at primary school,Terry Lynn, had been evacuated from London and still lived here until late forties.
