Popularly known as 'Pa Kinley's'.
The King Street shop was still open in the 1990s.
There was recently an episode of Bargain Hunt on which an Ascot Top Hat in a leather case with a P. A. Kinley Wigan label was featured, it wasn't a local sale and the contestants didn't buy it so it didn't go for auction, though the expert did say it would have been very expensive when new so some of their customers must have been quite well heeled.
My Mam always got hubbys shirts for his Birthday from Kinleys..a classy little shop as I remember.
I remember passing this shop every weekday when I worked in a bank in King Street. As Maureen says, it always looked as though they sold quality stock.
The old shop in King Street became a charity bookshop for a time in the late 90's. King Street was once one of Wigan's best streets, had several theatres, the Town Hall and numerous class shops. Where did it go wrong?
Does anyone know the location of Dicconson House on Standishgate?
I can't find any information on Dicconson House Ron, but I've found the original P.A. Kinley was Philip Alexander Kinley (1868 to 1936). He was born in the Isle of Man.
At different times he lived in Barnsley St and the Boar's Head area.

My previous post should have read Dicconson House, 39 Dicconson Street.
THE WHITE HOUSE appears to be another shop he had. By the angle of the road it would appear to be on the opposite side to M&S.I will have to check on when they had the shop at Dicconson House.
Florence House on the corner of Standishgate/Dicconson Terrace was the Dental practice of Mr.D.W. Dickinson from the early 50's to late 80's. He was our family dentist up to 1984 when I transferred over to a dentist on the Wirral after my Dad passed away. Dicconson House I cannot locate on any old maps (pre 1935) so I don't think it was Florence House.
