I didn't know it had closed, only passed it last week.Must have walked past here thousands of times on the way to Ince Park as a child.
Me too, Elizabeth. A part of our lives which we passed regularly on the way to Ince Park or fishing for cockies in Can-Row Brook.
Fishing for Cockies, in Can Row brook. Lovely words.
Yes Irene, you are right. Loads of happy memories of going down to Can Row Brook. Do you remember the houses that used to be there? They were flooded out regularly, and eventually demolished.
Yes, I remember them well, Elizabeth. The row was called East View but everyone called it Can Row.
I see this was a Burtonswood pub. Was it at one time a Wilson’s pub, or was there a Wilson’s pub in the vicinity?. If I remember rightly, a Wilson’s pub had a chequer board sign.
did derek devine play darts for this pub or was it the new amberswood ? .
The Wilsons pub was the Park on the opposite side of the road going towards Hindley. It was demolished a few years ago and now they have started building on the site.
I lived at 3 East View till I was 19 yrs old , born 1948 , I have many memories of the Amberswood and the streets ,houses & people that used to exist around it , seems like the end of an era ,.
