This photo is from the Wigan Evening Post, taken
at Cricket Street Business Park in Wigan, a few
days before a local By-Election. Sat in the cab
of the Leyland DAF artic lorry is Tom Peet, the
candidate for the Conservative Party. The other
characters from left to right are, Ray Smyth,
Euro MP Den Dover, Les Kendrick, Conservative MP
Bernard Jenkin, Margaret and Arnold Kendrick.

My Dad drove for Alf Goulding,oh how I'd love to see if there's any photos of him in his cab.

Would this have been the 1999 by election, brought about by the death of Roger Stott?

Mick...I don't know much about politics, but yes it was 1999
Was it Neil Turner who became the MP for Wigan ?. I would like to see some old photos of Alfred Goulding Transport lorries, especially from when they were on Pottery Road.

Tommy peet worked at bickershaw & golborne collieries as an electrician before leaving to join the tory party
