MATCHSTICK MODEL

Item #: 30146
This Tower Bridge model was 7ft.6ins of solid matchwood and was one of many that Arthur had constructed during his retirement as an aircraft engineer. It was considered to be one of the best in the land.
Hi Frank, it said on the model that Arthur had also built the Eiffel Tower and the Basilica in Lourdes as well as the Tower bridge.
The man is nothing but a genius!
I'll say it again... Brilliant !!!
I'll echo Roy's words..just brilliant.
Does anyone know where it is now?
Arthur Cunliffe was living in Cheery Tree court Standish
Mick next time you're passing pop in and ask him where the model is. It should be in the Reference library
I think this did a stint in Standish Library. Don't know where it ended up though
Well Mick I hope the residents are all cheery at Cherry Tree Court if it's a residential home.
It should be in/at a place where Arthur the maker wants it to be, Not where others decide it should be! Arthur may have made it and then wanted it thrown into the Doughie on a cold wet day. How are we to know . It should
is his alone ..
WOW!
A superb piece of work.
The chap who had the second hand bookshop on Darlington St between Harrogate St and the Pepper Mill forty odd years ago, also made matchwood models and displayed them in the shop window.
I seem to remember a fairground carousel and a Ferris wheel being on display at different times.
Just been to Cheery Tree court Standish and was told that Arthur died 5 or 6 years ago, the woman on duty said as far as she knew the tower bridge would be with his family
I was speaking to a lad last night who lives in Cherry Tree Court and he tells me that when the model was on display in the Shamrock a regular in the pub laid out £1000 in front of Arthur in a bid to buy it but he refused to sell.
Roy what was this lads name
Watch this space Mick, i'll get back to you in a couple of days.
How long should I keep watching Roy, have I got time to go and put the kettle on?
Hi Mick, sorry about that, I only see the lad who knows his name, once a week.
I'll see the lad on Wednesday Mick.
Thanks Roy I will nip out to shops then.
Terry Wilson was his name Mick.
Thanks Roy I thought I might known him, but I dont.
