Ron Crank and Burtons bought Ashtons cold storage building about 1950 Could this be the " Ashtons" ??
There used to be an Ashton Brother's in Hyde Cheshire. They made towels and were part of the Christie group who made luxury towels for hotels and also for the Wimbledon tennis championships. They also made Zorbit nappies. There was a shop open to the public were people could buy 'seconds'. I wondered if Ashton brothers also supplied the pit head baths where miners could buy servicable, striped towels or were given a token to use to exchange for towels. I remember my mother calling them pit towels.
However I am just speculating here and maybe completely off beam!
Ron previous album photo 4008 is of Ashton Bros cold store building 1914. IN Woodcck ST No fridges then They serviced the fish market and others with Ice. Whether they had other business interests ???
Wasn't there an wholesale tobacconist in Wigan by the name of Ashton?. Are they still operative?.
There is an Ashton's Coal Company, in the Coalyard, visible on this image:
