Is this the same photo that is on display at the RAF Millom Museum ? I've posted another pic of the Baallion in 1943 when my dad Joes Shepherd was a member. do you have a date for this one ?
Second row from front, second from left is my granddad John Marsh Leyland who died in 1944 after a long illness so this photo must have been no later than 1941
Sgt Albert Welsby,(was he your mate David) employed at Greens butchers, Never did much work he used to be called Lazy Wells, He still thought he was a sargeant in the army 30 years later when he used to boss the young butcher lads on Greens about, He was as soft as they come, you could knock him down with a feather, I used to deliver to Wigan market and knew all about him,
I know Sgt Welsby, He did not serve in the 2nd ww so he must have been doing National Service, If he had seen a German he would have run a mile or even two,
To J, Sgt Welsby, Never in ww 2, This photo is about 1944, He was a butcher at Greens in market at the same time he was pretending to be a soldier, Same age as myself, Just a bully boy, I knew him well, he drove Greens butchers van, I had a business in market, everybody knew about him,
