Having a sort out at home ahead of work being carried out and came across these two items, which were my late Grandmothers. They are Home Savings Banks. To give you some idea of scale, the " book" is 125 mm tall. She saved at the then named Midland Bank, which became HSBC, which was at the corner of Library St and Wallgate. It's now a Cafe. I don't know where the Wigan Savings Bank was, which is the smaller one, does anyone remember ? By the way, unfortunately there wasn't any money in either. Wisely she kept it in the real Bank.

Dave. I have one of these as well. I believe the Wigan Savings Bank became the TSB. By the way (assuming you are same Dave Cockrell) I don't know if you saw the comments I made after yours on "Wes" Hall and the WGS Bacharach trips back in March. I also made some comments on the great man
on the WGS 1969 school photo. Happy days

I have one similar to the book except it says "Wigan Building Society" on it. It belonged to my parents and I think it dates from the late 1950's or early 1960's.

Hi Dave. I was a year later than you 1963- 1970, although we were in some of the same 6th form sets ie Geography.
As well as the trip to Bacharach I seem to also recall you went on the 1966 skiing trip to Montreaux have I got this right. Interestingly we have been in Montreaux in winter several times over the years and there are no ski schools at all there now.

PS Sorry I don't use my proper name on any sites. Carolaen combines bits of mine and my wifes name. We use that as a username as we were cyberstalked a few years ago by a nutter from Nottingham God knows why neither of us have ever been there and we live in Somerset !! Ultimately we had to involve the police, so we've been very cautios since then.
