And it was played on a Sunday,a rarity for that time, think you had to buy a programme to get in

It was 1959 , and indeed it was on a Sunday , it give us lads from Platt Bridge something to do because the Billiard Hall was closed on Sunday, and Mr. Pastry was a linesman, cant remember who won though.never thought I'd see that programme again, the wonder of Wigan World?

My dad took me to this game (I was 9 at the time), mainly I think because Pat Phoenix was there. I'm not aware that he had ever been to Springfield Park before (or after). Similarly it was the only time i ever went there, being a RL fan. Wierdly my best mate at Grammar School was an ardent Latics fan and never went to Central Park.

i remember my dad taking me to this match. i know i enjoyed it even though i was only about 8yrs old the fact that i had seen Mr.Pastry,Pat Phoenix Des O,Connor and Lonnie Donegan people who i had seen on the tv it was great.i also remember a young lad falling through the roof of the stands. i wonder what happened to that lad? i loved going to the Latics with my dad and having a cup of tea and a pie at half time. happy days.

Remember it saying in the "Post" that Mr Pastry ran to help the young lad who had fallen through the roof, in fact he ran off in the other direction!
