One report says it was on a route training run for a forthcoming railtour

I recall going to Haydock Park Racecourse on the train from Wigan Wallgate, I think it was the hot summer of 1976. Does anybody else remember the trains going to Haydock Park?

I have just found out that there is a tour train coming on this line the old Haydock park line on Saturday 7th March and should be here by afternoon sometime, It will be stopped for a while as it can't get through because of stop buffers at Edge Green Golborne, Its visiting none passenger lines and is coming from Crewe as Cullie said it was, Its going to a few places around this area on the day, The tour is called the Lancs links and you can find old rail trips on the Pathfinder tours (railtrips) web site,

indeed there is a railtour on this bit of track this saturday it should be there about 1600 me thinks and will have top n tail class 37's on it

I remember the special Haydock Park race trains being advertised in the Wigan Observer when I was a teenager, probably about 1975.

The tickets seemed pretty cheap - 35p return from Wigan I seem to remember. Maybe BR thought you wouldn't be coming home from the racecourse with much money?

Jamse, this photo was taken at the public footpath level crossing that goes from Ashton road to Edge Green near Asda Golborne last Monday 2nd March as a training run for next saurdays 7th March passenger tour train that will be here at about 3.50 pm, see you there.

Wish I had known it was coming is there plans for any more trains to visit the site?We purchased the site and line what goes into kelbits (Hansons) it will always be kelbits.

How much of the train line is missing to go into the racecourse?

The train line which is owned by P F Jones (Kelbits) which Hansons refurbished and are going to use has a train arriving with stone on Monday15 October 2018 at 10.10 am
