1961 - 1962 football team, only lost 2 matches all season. Photo at Wigan Rovers ground, lost 1-0 to St Joseph's. Still have medals from the season. We were a good team.

all the schools in Wigan then had good Rugby teams then when all the Catholic schools joined together St Thomas More had the best.

I used to watch these lads play on the pitch down Donkey Lane in Lower Ince. The pitch was beside the Trenchy and didn,t have much grass on it.Front row second from the left- Norman Denton fourth from left I think is Jim Rawson. Thanks for putting this photo on Jimmy. I,m sure I know more names but things are a bit misty these days!

Comment by: Jimmy on 12th August 2014 at 22:37

Ann21,also put photo on of Spring View (bit blured)1961/2team always had good teams when I was there ( 1959 to 1963) but agree with you about Tommy Moores.

Comment by: Jimmy on 12th August 2014 at 22:47

Geoff, right about Norman &Jim will name who I can later.

Comment by: Jarvo on 12th August 2014 at 23:44

This isn't a school team, it's a Boys Club team. There's a big difference. And these lot would not have played Tommy Moore, anytime.

Comment by: owdviewer on 12th August 2014 at 23:45

Jimmy do you remember when we played football behind st Mary's church.

Comment by: Jimmy on 13th August 2014 at 00:28

Jarvo,Ann21 got it wrong somehow

Comment by: Jimmy on 13th August 2014 at 00:35

Owed viewer, that was our rugby pitch, football pitch,& cricket pitch .We spent many happy hours playing there.

Comment by: Albert. on 13th August 2014 at 11:49

Good piece of land, that owdviewer, for playing games on. Between the back of the church, and the wagon works. Played many a game of cricket there, just amongst other Springviewers'. That field near the trenchie. The surface was as hard as iron, no grass on it at all. I don't think today, with all the health & safety regulations, you would be allowed to have organized games there, as you did, from St Mary's School.

Comment by: Jimmy. on 13th August 2014 at 14:25

Albert, right about Trencie Pitch ,but us at St Mary's Boys Club loved playing on it .Didnt loose a match there in two years.other teams hated it,but we knew every lump, bump holes odd bit of grass, and bricks sticking up.

Jimmy. I had two very good mates that lived in Ainscow Street. Ronnie, & Jimmy Williams. Spent many a happy hour in their house, chatting, and playing cards. The whole family were the salt of the earth. I believe they were, in some way, related to your family.

Hi Jimmy, my Dad was made up that you said he was a great goalkeeper, he's been telling us that he was for years! Hehe.
He's filled a few of the missing names for you.
Top left is Lawrence Rigby, Alan Peters and Tom Cheers at the end. Bottom left is Robert Parker.
Great team, great times despite dodgy Donald (words of Keith Maiden).

Comment by: Jimmy. on 28th September 2014 at 21:53
