The bridge to the right is a canal bridge, presumably on the Leeds & Liverpool. Could the large building on the left be Kirkless Hall? The angle of his shadow suggests afternoon sun, looking towards the north-west.
I agree with the Rev about the canal bridge, I am not sure about the direction, is that Woochie Rook in the top left?
I dont think its Kirkless Hall because Kirkless Hall is in a dip.
I think the guitarist is Raymond Beckett ! He lived quite close to this location at the top of Belle Green Lane, Ince
That's my cousin Raymond Beckett at the top of belle green lane higher ince
looks like kirkless hall farm on left with cale lane running across top
Was this where the rubber dump was situated, just at the end of the second wold war?. I remember it being at the far end of Tank Street, and covered a very large area.
I am sure that the church on the horizon is St Katherins Blackrod
I think this is a mirror imige and the photo needs flipping over. The bridge is the railway from Spring branch to Kirkless that crossed Belle Green Lane. The top left is the Wooded Wutchie at the end of Cale lane and the houses are on Cale lane. Look at the photo through a mirror and you'll see what I mean.
Wo wo wo Garry, i thought you weren't supposed to 'tinker' with photos, that's your stand anyway!!! Only joking Garry.
If it was flipped horizontally, that would turn that Hofner President blond guitar into a left hander!
So it's left-handed..the gent could be left-handed if the instrument is his.
Albert I remember a rubber dump in the 50/60's on the Amberswood site
this is my brother raymond beckett lots of people call him jimmy,i put this photo on wigan world a while ago now,the original is same as this looking at it so it cant be mirror image ,is the bridge that looks like a canal bridge not where the trains came under ,that guitar belonged to eric booth my brothers friend x
Hi P.W It was definitely established at the top of Belle Green Lane, in 1945. Both my aunties, that lived at the top of the Lane, started working there. It was on a vast portion of land starting at the extreme end of Tank Street. It only seemed to remain there for two, or three years.
I suggested that it was probably a canal bridge because they often have the stonework around the bottom of the arch painted white to help the boatmen steer through after dusk, and in the early morning.
Garry, after enhancing the pic, the lad would be wearing a ladies top, according to the way its buttoned (if it was flipped....Satisfied?? ;o)
The suggestion that the possible church is Blackrod St Kath's I think is wrong. It is most likely St Elizabeth's in Aspull.
Nowt wrong with wearing a ladies top..after saying that, it's impossible to see the buttons. I know I'm right!
Thanks guys ands gals... I'm looking for the musical history behind this pic... band names, muso's names etc for www.lankybeat.com website...
The church is st johns new springs the houses are cale lane
top left plantations at higher lane
