I found this a good while back, partially covered in a local ash dump. Was it used as my title suggests and can anyone remember them?
The dish is approx 5 inch long.

Only the best pies in your opinion gibo. The best pies and cakes in my opinion and I'm sure most people (if they can remember) a small bakery at the bottom of Belle Green Lane, in Ince. Ashust/Cain I think...mmm I can just taste them pies now..great little shop.

garry my mouth is watering thinking about cains pies, they were queing out the door and no wonder best pies in wigan by far, pools were really good before dave wheelan got his hands on it that lovely old shop/cafe on wallgate was ruined , it had been there for years then it all changed, they stopped doing chips then through complaints they started doing them again ? the pies weren't the same , dry and thick pastry not slurppy anymore, why would you change something that's loved by all only to drive the customers away, dont get it , saving monney I suppose thick pastry less filling no ta,they went rotton most folk stopped buying them, that little shop/ café should be a little gold mine, morrisons in ince sell pools pies well I think they are,but the thickness of the pastry is horrid , waken up pie makers look at what people like you will sell a lot more pies .

In the 1980s i remember seeing a class 20 diesel electric locomotive parked up & idling away on a siding at springs branch depot with an I "Heart" Poole`s Pies car sticker, stuck in a cab window.

Went to school; Hindley and Abram grammar with Rodney Ashurst! Last I heard he lives in Sevenoaks, Kent. I agree about the pies!!!
