Just two of the many, many Wigan war heros,Syd Horton [L]of Whelley and Bob Parkinson of Aspull ;R] who served in the RAF,bomber command at Elsham Wolds Lincs. On returning from a "sortie", had to abandon their LANKY in the NE of occupied France , they arrived back in UK two weeks later having crossed the channel in the freezer of a fishing vessel. Heros one and all.

In the Morris Family part in the People section of this Album, there are 2 photos of Wigan student in Mesnes Park. Two of these went into the R.A.F in the war. Cyril Johnson was a pilot, & I think he served in the Middle East.My brother was a Flight Lieutenant in repair & maintainance (he was taught to fly so that he could test flight his own repairs). Brian has a copy of his autobiography.
