I hope each of you lads' were given the right posting after square bashing. I wasn't so lucky. In July, 1953, I left Wigan,by train, at around 22.00 hours, and eventually arrived at R.A.F. Netheravon, at 11.15 hours the next day, after having been posted to the R.A.F. Yatesbury.
This is RAF Cardington not Bridgenorth that is the R101Airship hanger in the background.
I was posted to R.A.F. Catterick in the R.A.F.Regiment display team. We appeared at Earles Court, Edinburgh Tattoo and Anglo-Portugese Tattoo in Lisbon. In 1958 I did a tour of twelve months on Christmas Island, then back to Catterick in the drill display team, and just before I got demobbed we were presented with the Queen's Colours whitch is now the Queen's Colour Guard.
I recognised a lot of these lads. A few of them came to RAF bridgenorth with me as they were on the same intake as myself,26th june to 2 july 1956.I was originally from the isle of wight but on demob settled down in wigan 1961.Great to see this photo.
