Taken around 1939 the photograph shows the team with the Pavilion in the background on St Catharine's Rec. In shot are: Ben Brown, Bob Valentine, George Mason, Eric McCann, Edmund Burgess and Frank Isherwood. If you can provide any additional names it would be appreciated.

Front row 4th from the left is my Dad, Norman Hesketh, who was an accomplished goalkeeper. Looking at my Dad I would say the year was a couple of years earlier than 1939. The team would be playing in the Wigan Sunday Schools' League. Match reports, known as 'Squibs', would often appear in the Wigan Observer. He also played for the Queen's Hall team where he was captain for a while. Extreme right front row is George Mason who figured for many years in the church life at St Catherine's where he was a sidesman and Scout Leader in the Scout Troop-(14th Wigan). I recogise several other faces but sadly cannot put names to them.
Thanks for posting the photo!

My grandad - Peter Winstanley is last player on the second row, right.
