The first half of the programme of events shows a route starting and finishing from St Catharine's Recreation Ground. Can you imagine what health and safety issues a parade like that would cause today? We would have to close off part of the town. In those days officialdom welcomed such events and brought the people together. Wouldn't it be great to have a combined carnival again involving all the churches for one day in the year?
