Wigan Album

Back in the late fifties and early sixties, Wigan Registry Office was located on the first floor of Bank Chambers, behind the GPO, on Wallgate. Locak press photographers used to loiter in the alleyway waiting for newlywed couples to emerge, so they could shoot a quick picture for the hatches, matches and dispatches pages of their papers.
I was a sixteen year old junior at McConnell New service and hanging about the cold alley way in winter at 8.00 O'Clock on a Saturday morning was anything but appealing, so I would go into the chambers and amuse myself shooting "fine art".... that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
I shot the pic of milk bottles sitting on the window ledge, through the ballustrade, I don't suppose it was ever a great work of art, but now it is a bit of Wigan memorabilia
