Can anyone please give me an idea which regiment this person may have been in? He served in Egypt in 1944.

The uniform looks like a First World War one.

The uniform is certainly pre - WW2, as he is wearing puttees, and they were phased out in 1937.
The bandolier, lanyard, and spur fittings on his boots suggest Royal Horse Artillery.
Do we know if he was a regular soldier, as opposed to a conscripted man? This might explain the pre 1937 uniform, and later service in Egypt.

Mick, I have no idea if he was a regular soldier or not. The photograph has only just come to light, hence my request for information. There is a short message to my mother on the back of the photo, and it finishes with "From your cousin Tom"
If this photo was taken during WW1 could he have been my mothers cousin, as my mother was only born in 1918.? Along with the photo is a Seasons Greetings card dated 1944 and showing outlines of palm trees and pyramids. Inside the card is a stamp for HQ. BTE. 1944 and a short message finished with the signature Tom. That signature is exactly the same as the one on the photo. There is a booklet too, called Services Guide to Cairo, hence the reason I said he served in Egypt.

The uniform is certainly pre WW2 Jacklaw, but it could well be 1920s, or early 1930s.
He could have been a regular soldier in that period, and still serving when hostilities commenced in 1939, or recalled from the reserve. This would explain the card from Egypt.

That's a metal shoulder title Wig, worn by other ranks.
Also the button up collar tunic he is wearing is other ranks.
