Dennis, they did hang up rabbits and also hares they were always had blood dripping into a container, I was always fascinated walking past there with the colours of the pheasant feathers, pity there isn't anything like this stall in Wigan anymore, everything now has to be dressed ready for cooking and hygienically packed.
I knew Brian very well, lived in SLG & went to Gidlow Sec Mod together & played for the rugby team. He (or his son, now) has a furniture shop bottom of Beech Hill Lane on the little parade of shops
my gran had this stall before Brian,i think? her name was Gertie Thomas and her sister was married to Tommy Boylan who also had a stall on the market
Any relation to the Shackladys at Stanley House near Haydock, St Helens?
I remember Brian opening a fish 'n' chip diner on Market St which he subsequently sold to a Ugandan Asian Family, the same financier, a Mr. Kent wanted to buy my studio. Hindsight is 20/20 I should have sold to him.
